Ethiraj Gabriel Dattatreyan - Nigerian Bros: Masculine Intimacies and Race in Indian Media Worlds

Ethiraj Gabriel Dattatreyan is Associate Professor of Anthropology at New York University, where he also serves as core faculty in the Culture and Media Program and affiliated faculty in the Department of Music. Over the past decade, his research has employed collaborative, multimodal, and speculative methodologies to examine how practices of media consumption, production, and circulation inform understandings of migration, gender, race, and urban space within diasporic and postcolonial contexts. He is the author of The Globally Familiar: Digital Hip Hop, Masculinity, and Urban Space in Delhi, India (Duke University Press, 2020) and co-author, with Sahana Udupa, of Digital Unsettling: Decoloniality and Dispossession in the Age of Social Media (NYU Press, 2023).
