Aryana Ghazi-Hessami

Research interests:

Aryana is a PhD student in the Department of Anthropology at NSSR and the current Art and Social Justice Fellow at The Vera List Center at The New School. Her research sits at the intersection of visual and image cultures, gender and sexuality studies, new media, and contemporary Islam. Currently, she is working with queer media outlets in the Arab World to question the role aesthetics play in crafting new political imaginaries, and explorations of sexuality through (predominantly digital) Islamic media(s).

Prior to graduate studies at NSSR, Aryana completed an MA in Aesthetics & Politics from California Institute of the Arts, and a BA in Curation from Central Saint Martins.
